Band of Horses – Infinite Arms (2010)

Band of Horses - Infinite Arms (2010) Band Of Horses has gone through generic viagra online a revolving door of different lineups, and with their release of Infinite Arms this year, many were anticipating that the static group had reached a cheap cialis online homeostasis. While this may have been true for the band’s physical line up, the sound of Infinite Arms is still indicative of an indie rock band navigating pop-culture puberty a little worse for the wear. There is no doubt that Band of Horses is very comfortable with their formula, as Infinite Arms is an outright emulation of Everything All the Time and Cease to Begin; filled with sonic elements that were enjoyable within their own domain, but have a finite shelf-life. Stranded on a dessert island, I’m sure that many fans could find a lot to like about the disc, but competing with a seemingly... Read More

The Orb & David Gilmour – Metallic Spheres (2010)

The Orb & David Gilmour - Metallic Spheres (2010) The Orb's material has been sold under a few genres, frequently 'house music' or 'ambient'.  Their 1991 debut album Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld was a wildly psychedelic album – spacey and ethereal progressive suites that were recorded to captivate the minds of teenagers who are just beginning to experiment with the notion that the right soundtrack combined with the right chemical catalyst could transport you somewhere. Almost too strong of a motive, the work sounded like more of a laser show soundtrack than a serious concept electronica album. Following the same formula, the new release of Metallic Spheres teams The Orb up with guitarist/legend David Gilmour, the major vocal and guitar contributor to Pink Floyd's signature brand of psychedelia. Since their first release, the Orb has... Read More

Eric Clapton – Clapton (2010)

Eric Clapton - Clapton (2010) This album cover says it all. Clapton is staring at you. He does not blink. He does not move. He just stares at you austerely, without energy or conviction. Perhaps he's constipated, or just really, really tired of this whole “music business happy horseshit.” Yep, that about sums up Clapton. I'm tepidly receptive of Clapton, Eric Clapton's newest disc. On one hand, it executes the Eric Clapton formula perfectly: blue-eyed blues produced with guitar dexterity and a clean, stripped sound. On the other hand, the disc is restrictively somber – listeners expecting to enjoy blues guitar acrobatics will be disappointed when they find out that tender, sentimental “blues” banalities have swallowed just about every arrangement on this disc. This album has a very classic, delta blues feel... Read More

The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You (2009)

The Avett Brothers - I and Love and You (2009) Change is inevitable.  Sometimes change is instant, and adapting begins immediately.  Often though, change occurs over a period of time and can be the most difficult to deal with.  A grandparent begins to develop Alzheimers and slowly loses their grip on reality. A once-sweet child enters his teenage years and becomes cold, belligerent and self-serving. The Avett Brothers, after twelve various releases since 2000, create an album which when played, personally punches each fan repeatedly and adamantly in their respective gonads. I’m going to be honest here. I can’t say I grew up in the South and have seen these guys since their very first show, most likely performed on the rickety floorboards of a cigarette-choked bar/shack.  In fact, I have only known of them for about three years now, ever since seeing them live in New... The Low Anthem – Oh My God, Charlie Darwin (2009)

The Low Anthem – Oh My God, Charlie Darwin (2009) So, I like folk music.  Also, I like rock music.  These things being the case, I expected to enjoy The Low Anthem's “Oh My God, Charlie Darwin,” seeing as how it's a folk rock album with a fine frosting of condescending pretension.  I mean, check out the name.  Of everything.  The Low Anthem?  Get it?  Anthems are like uplifting, but it's low?  See?  And God juxtaposed with Darwin?  CHARLIE Darwin?  Like Charles Darwin?  Except that they're giving him a kid's name?  Because they're better than everyone? Or are they? Listening to the first track (aptly named “Oh My God, Charlie Darwin”), it starts out with some basic fingerpicking and pretentiously high-pitched singing, with lyrics that are actually pretty good, and manage (for the most part, because lines like...
